A current parent perspective on the UK's top schools

INSIDE SCOOP Sandroyd

INSIDE SCOOP Sandroyd School Rushmore, Tollard Royal, Salisbury, Wilts, SP5 5QD Admissions: drawlinson@sandroyd.com 01725 530124 • sandroyd.com SW Day/Flexi/Weekly/Full 2-13 The Inside Scoop from a current parent… We initially chose Sandroyd due to its wide range of facilities and being co-ed, we could have both our children together. The remote country location was very important to us as well. The school has enhanced the children’s characteristics and they are free to develop with careful guidance. Sandroyd has fully met our hopes. Our children are learning, and are happy, with a good group of contemporaries. They have enthusiastic staff who engender a desire to learn and a caring approach to boarding which ensures everyone is noticed. Education is wide and whilst aimed at the necessary exams, is deliberately designed to broaden outlooks and introduce new ideas. A school that pushes the children when needed and protects them when required. As parents, we love: The unforced emphasis on academic challenge at both ends of the spectrum. The exceptional pastoral care and nuturing environment for our children. The approachability of all the staff from the Headmaster down. Our children love: The incredible surrounds of Sandroyd within Rushmore Park, it’s unbeatable. The range of activities including sports, riding, music, debating, Lego Club and learning. The family atmosphere of the school. HEADS UP “We believe character skills are absolutely key to a Sandroyd education and ultimately these are the skills that allow our children to be happy and succesful at Senior School and life beyond.” Alastair Speers, Headmaster Open days: 18th May and 8th June 2019. 72 Read the full review on schoolnotices.co.uk ★ 2019

INSIDE SCOOP Shrewsbury School The Schools, Shrewsbury, SY3 7BA Admissions: admissions@shrewsbury.org.uk 01743 280 552 • shrewsbury.org.uk Day/Full 13-18 M|N The Inside Scoop from a current parent… We chose Shrewsbury because of the quality of education, opportunities and facilities it offered our daughter. Of particular note were the music and sports facilities and the attractive, roomy boarding houses. Shrewsbury is special because it seems to manage to get the very best out of its pupils without being a pressure cooker. There is expectation and great success including many Oxbridge and Russell Group entrants and national sporting awards. This success is built around hope and encouragement. Shrewsbury has helped shape our daughter into a young woman who is self-reliant, inquisitive and ambitious with strong organisational skills and a practical outlook. She loves her time at Shrewsbury and will be very sad to leave. As parents, we love: Shrewsbury’s slightly quirky character revels in individuality both in its students and its staff! Many schools talk about educating the whole child, Shrewsbury actually does this. We ADORE the music. Shrewsbury is blessed with a remarkable music department and inspirational director. Our children love: The traditions give us a sense of identity and allow us freedom to have some fun. The house system provides us with a sense of identity and the chance of friendly rivalry. The teachers are really inspiring. HEADS UP “Serious fun. We aim to instil values that guide a person through life; love of learning; skills and aptitudes that equip them for the wider world; friendships that last a lifetime; and the willingness to embrace a world of change with an open mind and a generous heart.” Leo Winkley, Headmaster Open days: 11th May 2019, 14th September 2019 (16+), 8th June 2019, 9th November 2019 (13+). 2019 ★ Read the full review on schoolnotices.co.uk 73
