These are all brilliant qualities to have in a kitchen! I see it as our responsibility to help them maximise their natural desires and explore the delights of food. It’s important to let our children experiment and make mistakes. Let them over whisk the cream, burn the gravy, hard boil an egg, forget the baked potatoes. Kids rise to challenges and long to show us that they can be trusted. If you teach them how to use a knife and gently guide them as they get used to it, then you must trust in their natural instinct for selfpreservation. Stir fry is a great place to start with kids. They get to handle a little meat, peel chop and prep a variety of veg and cook using just one pan! Check out my recipes on my website for some ideas. COOKING WITH KIDS BY FLORA GORDON CLARK Kids and teens love being together and my courses enable them to acquire useful new culinary skills in a relaxed and fun home environment. The simple ethos at Flora’s Kitchen is to learn to cook by getting involved with anything and everything – they will learn by doing the work. I have launched a new series of courses called... Teen Cooking (aged 14-17) teaching different types of cuisine from around the world. Junior Cooking (aged 9-13) which has been hugely popular for kids learning the basics.
